Copper Canyon (Spanish: Barrancas del Cobre) is a breathtaking network of six massive canyons located in the state of Chihuahua, in northern Mexico. While often compared to the Grand Canyon, Copper Canyon is actually larger and deeper in several areas — and far less crowded.

Copper Canyon lies in the rugged Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range. The main eastern gateway town is Creel, Chihuahua, a charming Pueblo Mágico that serves as a base for exploring the region.  The main western gateway town is El Fuerte, Sinaloa, another charming Pueblo Mágico offering a colonial atmosphere.

One of the most famous ways to get to the Canyon is aboard the Chihuahua-Pacific Railway (known as El Chepe), a scenic train journey that runs between Chihuahua City, Chihuahua and Los Mochis, Sinaloa.
